Story Of Tonight

You know that you can never remember dreams, but sometimes there are dreams that you can’t forget. Every once and awhile me and my friends will get into a conversation about dreams, and there is always this one dream that I  tell the story of. I  probably had this dream when I  was about 3? So I  walked off my back porch and into my side yard. There was this big wooden stage, and my brother and his friends were in hula skirts, and playing the ukulele, don’t ask why! After the concert my brother Will came off the stage, and told me that there was an alligator on the loose somewhere. We set up this rope trap in a tree, then walked away. When we came back, there was an alligator hanging from the trap, how an alligator gets in a tree, I  don’t know. So I  ran inside to tell my dad, and he was in the middle of some meeting, so I  went back outside. But when I  came out, the ropes were all cut and lying on the ground, and the alligator was gone! This used to be the scariest thing to 3 year old me. What’s a strange story about a dream you tell everyone?

My Shot

Just a couple of summers ago, we went to my mom’s families family reunion out in either Texas or Louisiana. That’s the general area my mom’s family is from. Of course we moved to Virginia, but my mom was raised in New Orleans. Just a couple days ago we got a king cake for mardi gras. Sorry getting off topic. My brother and I  were staying with my mom’s cousin, out in the country. We got to ride four wheeler’ s, see a lot of yellow jackets, which I  didn’t like, and stare at the stars until we fell asleep. So my mom’s cousin wasn’t a hunter, but he had a couple of bee-bee guns, and I  think regular guns. So he took me and my brother out onto the porch one day, and gave us a bee-bee gun. He said to try to hit that bowl maybe like 20-30 feet away. After a couple tries my brother hit it. You know that once you see someone mess up, you feel like you can do it better, well that’s how I felt. So I  grabbed the gun, set up my aim, and then hit a tree around 10 feet away from the target. Now we know never to give Erin a gun.

Aaron Burr Sir

In case you didn’t know, my name is Erin. With an E. Not with two A’s. That’s how boys spell it. DO I  LOOK LIKE A BOY! It’s kind of weird having a name that can be a boys name. People always want to spell my  name with two A’s, It’s as if girls can’t be named Erin. So this blog is written in defense of all those people who’s names can be a boy’s or girl’s name. All the Sydney’s, Sam’s, Taylor’s, Jessie’s, Riley’s, Alex’s and many more. We are a loud to have our own personalities, we don’t have to love sports and hate fashion. If you happen to know two different people of the opposite genders who have the same name, don’t even THINK about calling them girl Erin and Boy Aaron! There is a song in Hamilton called Aaron Burr sir, and when ever my friends and I listen to Hamilton, they will talk about how funny it is that we have the same name. It’s not funny! My friend even called me Aaron Burr for a day, I have my own name. So if you ever run into me listening to Hamilton, at least call the song Erin Burr Mam! Comment if you have one of these names.

Alexander Hamilton (2)

Along side the Slice of Life challenge, me and my friend Jenna are competing in the Alexander Hamilton Blog Challenge. That is where you have to make blog posts that start with the names of all 46 songs. There is no winner, but if you quit before all 46, you can consider yourself the loser. The post doesn’t have to have anything in common with the musical. For instance, when I title one of my blogs wait for it, I can talk about a time when my flight was cancelled, but I had to stay in the airport and wait for it. (Not a true story) I am starting today, but because I already have one named Alexander Hamilton, this one is called Alexander Hamilton 2. I am making my blogs in order of sequence on the soundtrack, but who knows what Jenna may do! If you want to check out Jenna’s posts on the Alexander Hamilton challenge, her blog is called Memes and Dreams. Don’t ask about the title. Tomorrow I will post a blog called Aaron Burr sir. I am going to have to think about what that one is going to be about.

Slice of Life Challenge

I am participating in the slice of life challenge. That is where you post a slice of life blog post every day of March. I know it isn’t March yet, but I am going to start today.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
In Math today we did something that rarely happens, we switched seats! Me and my friends Mia and Jenna of course always hope to be seated together. That never happens, but still! We all lined up in the back of the class, and crossed our fingers as he called the first name. “Mia.” There are three to four people seated at each table, so there was hope. He called another name that was neither Jenna’s or mine. A few seconds later Mia’s table was filled, and Jenna and I were still standing. He went through several more tables until only two were left. Jenna and I were still both standing. He began to call out names for the second to last table. “Srija, Nathan.” Since there were only four people left standing, one of them would have to go to that table to make three. If me or Jenna’s name was called we would be separated. “Krithi.” All the crossing of fingers worked! Me and Jenna were at the same table! It was a miracle, but poor Mia all alone on the other side of the classroom. I guess she’ll be distraction free?
Clay
 So in art we doing clay. Basically the best subject to be studying. So we are making whatever we want using three different methods. 1.Pinch Pots. That’s where you make two pots, then put them together to make a hollow sphere. 2. Coil. In this step you make a cylinder snake like thing that you roll out, then cut it to make a tail, or leg, or something else. 3. Slab. This is pretty easy. You just cut a shape out of flat clay. For my project I am making a whale. You know that cartoon whale from the vineyard vines logo. The pots are the body, the coil’s the tail, and the slab’s those flippers at the end of the tail. We spent literally all day today just making are pinch pot spheres. Mine didn’t turn out completely horrible! It was kind of a surprise. My friend is making a wiener dog, so when she cut open her cylinder, and hollowed it out, it really looked like a hot dog bun! That made me laugh pretty hard.
Pi Day
We have just recently been informed that pi day is coming up on March 14. That’s 3-14-17. You get it, cause the first 3 digits of pi are 3.14! So they told us to bring in a white t-shirt. Apparently we are supposed to decorate it? A math themed shirt. Don’t worry, I will find a way to make it amazing! We are also allowed to bring in circular foods, like pie (duh), cake, cookie, pizza, and other foods. I want to bring in an apple pie, because apple pie is the best! I like chocolate, cherry, and peach, but you can’t beat the classics! Apple pie is by far the best pie to exist on this planet. I am so excited to eat pie, and make shirts, and I guess learn some math. Maybe not the math part.
My Mission Statement
So in English for the past couple of classes, we have been working on a class mission statement. If you don’t know what that is, it’s a statement that we wrote about things we should be doing each day. In the beginning we thought of things that we should include in it, then we got into groups and wrote a quick ruft draft. This part was pretty easy, it was just taking our ideas, and putting them into our own words. Next we made a big poster board with our statement on it, then we went around the classroom and everybody shared their’s. A very difficult was picking out the phrases that we liked from every ones statements, there were just so many good ones! After we picked out our favorite phrases, everyone wrote down their own final draft of the mission statement using every ones ideas. Our teacher put all of our ideas together then created one mission statement. Today we just revised what we had, and that was pretty hard because we had to take out a couple of phrases that I  liked. I  feel like this statement’s main reason was just to remind us what we should be doing and remembering. Overall, it was a fun project and it could really be beneficial to our class. Here is our finished product.
Every day, English opens a new chapter. I will pick up my books and pens and take down the monster that is known as doubt.  In English there is no limit to what you can write or what you can read. I will explore new ideas in my daily writing with creativity. I will listen and be involved for the better of the class.
This room is where we are on the same team, so we will forgive and understand because everyone has a story. We express ourselves with confidence. Staying focused and showing kindness to others will be the key to success for this year. This is the room where you can be yourself.
Be kind to everyone, everywhere, every day.
We’re savage–no one can change that. In the end there is one thing you need to take away from this class, and that is…… YOU CAN DO IT!
Alexander Hamilton
If you know anything about me, you know that I love Hamilton. If for some reason you don’t know what that is, it’s a musical about one of our founding fathers. The creator of Hamilton thought that Alexander Hamilton embodied hip hop, so the soundtrack consists of many raps. Not to brag, but I have memorized all 46 songs. Once you start listening there is no escape, and before you know it you are flying up to New York to see it live! My personal favorite character is Eliza Schuyler. I can relate to her in many ways, and Phillipa Soo, the actress who plays her, has a beautiful voice. The truth is that it would be impossible for me to choose a favorite song! I kind of have a new one every week. Currently I love the song burn, but in the past some of my favorites have been…
  • Satisfied
  • The Room Where It Happened
  • Wait For It
  • Right Hand Man
  • Non Stop
  • Helpless
  • Schuyler Sisters
  • What’d I Miss
  • The Election of 1800
And so on. I hope that after reading this, if you have not already, you go and listen to the soundtrack. I would highly recommend it!
OLW for 2017
Dedication. That is my one little word for the year. an OLW is a word you choose that you sort of live by for the year. The dictionary says that dedication means the “quality of being dedicated or committed to a task or purpose.” But to me it means that once you start something, you work until it’s done, and try your hardest at it.Dedication and commitment are my words for the year. The dictionary says they are completely different words, but in my mind, they are very similar. This word will help me create goals, and carry them out. This is something I would like to work on.
